Breast Reduction in Bangkok

The Ultimate Guide to Breast Reduction in Bangkok

Breast reduction in Bangkok offers you the chance for a well-deserved holiday at the same time as you have surgery to make you feel more comfortable with the size of your breasts.

The procedure is also called reduction mammoplasty, and is something many women undertake if they are self-conscious about their breasts being too big, or one is larger than the other – and certainly if they are a source of discomfort or pain.

Who is suitable or a breast reduction?

If you are of good general health, are embarrassed about your breast size or if your nipples point downwards you may be a good candidate. If you are over 40 you will have to have a mammogram, chest x-ray or ECG beforehand to make sure there is nothing untoward in or around your breast tissue.

Why get a breast reduction in Bangkok?

Bangkok is not only a center of excellence when it comes to cosmetic surgery techniques, it is also one of the most exciting cities in the world. You won’t be stuck for things to see and do, whether it’s sight-seeing, dining out or just relaxing in your hotel. It is a 21st century city, with all the facilities and amenities you would expect to find in any modern city, which makes for a great holiday and comfortable post-surgery recuperation.

Bangkok was the first city in Thailand to establish itself as a medical tourism destination, and the first in Thailand to receive JCI accreditation for one of its facilities. It still remains as one of the most popular locations for international patients. If you haven’t been to Thailand, you may well be pleasantly surprised at how good the facilities are, and any patients traveling from overseas remark that the standards in Bangkok are head-and-shoulders above what they are used to at home.

Many of the clinics and hospitals are new and ultra-modern, purpose-built to house state-of-the-art technology and to provide patients with speedy, efficient services which are diametrically opposite to healthcare in other parts of the world. For example, in the UK interminable waiting times and poor facilities and equipment squeezed into buildings that have stood for over a hundred years is not unusual. The point is that most people don’t enjoy going to hospital, and so anything that can make it a pleasanter experience for patients is going to have a positive impact on their well-being, which will aid their recovery.

This efficiency is evident from the moment patients walk through the door in any one of Bangkok’s quality facilities – from courteous, attentive, English-speaking staff to the thoroughness and expertise of the surgeons. There is no need to worry that the medical care is somehow inferior to at home, because it isn’t. Training here is just as long and arduous as it is in the US, UK or Australia and once qualified, the profession is stringently regulated.

How long does the breast reduction procedure take?

Normally most breast reduction procedures take between two and four hours to complete, depending on how much breast tissue is removed.

You will be given a general anesthetic for the procedure, and the excess breast tissue will usually be removed through a keyhole incision cut around the nipple and down the breast. Your nipple will be repositioned higher up on the breast once the tissue has been removed. You will be bandaged and may have drainage tubes inserted to help remove fluid from the breasts after the operation, and you will probably need to wear a surgical bra.

What is the breast reduction recovery time?

The bandages and drains will be removed in a week and you are likely to feel tender and stiff for the first few days. After 10 days your bruising and swelling should be diminishing, but it will be several weeks before your movement feels freer, and significantly longer before you can embark on strenuous exercise or heavy lifting. It will take as long as 6 months before you are completely healed.

What is the cost of a breast reduction in Bangkok compared to Australia or New Zealand?

Breast reduction in Bangkok costs around AUD $3,900 compared to AUD $7,900 in Australia.
