The Ultimate Guide to Botox

Banish wrinkles with Botox.

Botox is one of the least inexpensive non-surgical cosmetic procedures available to combat wrinkles. It is also quick to administer and requires virtually no downtime. Although it is not worth making a specific trip abroad just for this procedure alone, you can certainly save money if you are already going on a trip and plan to have some Botox while you are there.

Botox is popular for smoothing lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet. It works best on active wrinkles (those caused by facial expressions), eliminating 80% of imperfections. The results are temporary, lasting 3 – 5 months and so the procedure will need to be repeated on a regular basis.

What is Botox?

It is a type of botulinum toxin that when injected into muscles paralyzes rather than poisons the muscles. This relaxing effect on the muscles makes people look much younger and some practitioners have had success using Botox in the treatment of medical conditions, including migraines, muscle spasms, squints and excessive sweating.

Am I a suitable candidate for Botox?

This is an alternative to surgery and ideally, you would be showing visible signs of facial aging with lines and wrinkles.

Effects are cumulative and will be greater over time, but you will need to have it re-done every 4-5 months.

If you are pregnant or nursing Botox has not yet been proven to be safe for the fetus so best avoided.

Botox Before and After - what do I need to do?

Before Botox treatment:

• Don’t take aspirin or other blood thinning medication for a week before the procedure
• Don’t wear make up
• Use ice packs to reduce bruising and swelling

After Botox treatment:

• Refrain from touching your skin where the Botox was injected and don’t rub the area for 24 hours unless you want to spread the Botox to other unintended muscles.
• Avoid strenuous activity
• Avoid facials for 24 hours
• Use ice packs to ease swelling

Botox Recovery Time

You may have some bleeding, bruising, redness or swelling at the injection site, but this should only last hours, although if you have sensitive skin it may last for 1-2 days. It is recommended that you don’t lie down for several hours after the procedure.

Is the quality of Botox overseas good?

Yes – provided you go to a reliable practitioner.

Medical Departures performs background checks on all its verified clinics, checking out qualifications, accreditations and professional memberships. We also provide real botox reviews from former patients so you can see for yourself whether a clinic or doctor seems trustworthy for your botox treatment.

How much can I save on the cost of Botox abroad?

Overseas Botox costs between 50 and 80% less at some clinics but it is not an expensive procedure compared to other cosmetic surgery and it will rarely be worth the expense of traveling abroad specifically for Botox.

However, if you are already going to a specific destination, rather like teeth whitening it will save a lot of money if you have it done while you are there.
