The Ultimate Guide to Bellafill in Costa Rica

Wrinkles marring your face? Bellafill in Costa Rica can get rid of wrinkles, lines and deep scars. Bellafill is more popular than hyaluronic acid fillers because it gives long lasting results and can be used in different places as well.

This dermal filler contains collagen, polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres, along with 0.3 percent lidocaine, an anesthetic. It stimulates the production of natural collagen in the body and the PMMA microspheres provide a foundation for the collagen. So the results are two-fold: immediate volume and, as time goes by, natural collagen to replace the collagen that the body has lost

It can be used for deep lines and wrinkles including nose to mouth lines, deep acne scars, chin dimples, adding volume to sunken cheeks, lip augmentation (off-label) and non-surgical nose jobs. As such it has multiple uses and makes you look better without having to undergo surgery, giving you an immediate facelift result.

Why consider Bellafill in Costa Rica?

Costa Rica is a beautiful holiday destination, known for its eco and adventure tourism. It is a great holiday place since it has mountains, rivers, diving sites, waterfalls, beaches and more. It is famous for its biodiversity, its flora and fauna and even rare and protected indigenous species of wildlife. In Central America, it is easily accessible from Canada and the United States.

You can combine a holiday in this Central American country along with some cosmetic treatment, getting a two-for-one deal. As the treatment is minimally invasive your holiday will not be impacted. While San Jose, the capital, has the major hospitals and clinics there are good quality facilities at other places like Escazu, Tibas, Santa Ana and Liberia.

Costa Rica is a safe country to visit; it has a low crime rate and great food. Its main attractions are volcanoes, trekking, bird watching, snorkeling, rafting, canopy tours, bungee jumping and, of course, going to the many nature parks and forests for the flora and fauna. In fact, three of them, Cocos Island, Area de Conservación Guanacaste and La Amistad International Park are UNESCO World Heritage sites. There are many other reserves that have their special attractions. The country also has its own list of seven natural wonders.

It is also a prime medical tourism destination with more than 50,000 medical tourists visiting the country for its lower cost of medical care. The rates are 30 to 50 percent cheaper than those in the U.S. for surgeries, treatments and even diagnostic tests.

How long does Bellafill take and is there any downtime associated with it?

Almost all dermal fillers do not require much time as the injections usually come pre-filled. Once the doctor decides where you need the work done, the injections take a matter of minutes and can be over is as little as half an hour at the most. There is a caveat however. Bellafill comes from a bovine source and needs allergy testing before treatment. It may not be suitable for people who have immune system problems or who are allergic to any of its contents.

You may have swelling and tenderness at the site of the injections, but this should soon subside. You should not touch or massage your face after treatment as the Bellafill can migrate. You have to take care for two weeks, but you are mobile and don’t need to take any other precautions unless you have been specifically advised to do so. It can also form lumps and granulomas that may need to be surgically removed. On the whole treatment with this filler is much better because the results are relatively permanent.

What is the cost of Bellafill?

Bellafill is fairly expensive, but you don’t need to go for repeated treatments. You can pay around US$1,067 per syringe (CAD 1,424, AUD 1,400, NZD 1,493, £873, €981). You will pay much less than that in Costa Rica.
