When Should I Consider Wrinkle Treatment?

As we age our skin begins to lose its elasticity and youthful bloom – a combination of our bodies producing less of the substances that keep skin supple and healthy but also as a result of our lifestyles.

Premature ageing and wrinkles may be accelerated by smoking, a bad diet and sun exposure as well as our inherited genes but there are a myriad of surgical and non-surgical treatments to help minimize the look of wrinkles and stop the ageing process in its tracks.

What Treatment Options Are Available for Facial Wrinkles in Seoul?

South Koreans undergo more plastic and cosmetic procedures (per capita) than any other nationalities in the world. So, it goes without saying that plastic surgery, as well as other cosmetic and beauty treatments, are very popular here – with many patients from across Asia flying here specifically to take advantage of the expertise available (rather than necessarily saving money).

There are so many different options to combat facial wrinkles that it can seem rather overwhelming and confusing. It is important to remember that not all wrinkle treatments are created equally – and it is definitely worth doing a little research before you take the plunge as some treatments will only work for certain wrinkles, rather than all of them.

A good dermatologist or surgeon will be able to give you the best advice for your particular circumstances, but generally, treatments for facial wrinkles can be divided into surgical and non-surgical procedures.

Cosmetic Surgery for Facial Wrinkles in Seoul:

Most people still think of the facelift as the zenith of anti-ageing treatments, but it is considered to be a ‘big’ treatment as it affects the whole face. If you have sagging skin across the whole face, including jowls, neck or chin looseness, nasolabial folds and eye creases then a whole facelift may be the answer. However, often most people only have one or two problem areas, and a facelift is a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Nowadays, surgery is much more tailor-made to each individual, so there are now mini-lifts as well as lower facelifts and other surgery that targets specific problem areas such as the eyes, or double chins or turkey (wattle) neck.

Non-surgical Treatments for Facial Wrinkles in Seoul:

This is a growth area in terms of combating wrinkles as new products are appearing all the time.

The most well-known are the injectable treatments, such as neurotoxins (Botox®, Dysport®) which work by paralyzing the underlying muscles that form wrinkles. Its best use is on what are known as ‘active’ wrinkles – the ones that are caused by facial expressions, rather than static wrinkles which can be seen all the time.

Dermal fillers are also popular injectable treatments but these work by adding volume to the skin which ‘fills’ the wrinkles and smooths out the skin. There are different brands (such as Juvederm® and Restylane®) and types available which work in slightly different ways – some stimulate the skin into producing its own beneficial collagen, for example. Most of the injectables are temporary, lasting between three and 12 months, although some are permanent so do check with your practitioner.

Another way of getting rid of facial wrinkles is by resurfacing skin treatments. These help the skin to regenerate new growth as well as helping with product penetration so that the benefits of anything you put onto the skin can get deep into the dermis providing the most benefit. Resurfacing treatments include:

  • Laser resurfacing which removes the outer layers of skin and promotes the growth of collagen.
  • Chemical peels, which remove damaged outer skin layers, reveal new skin underneath using a chemical solution.
  • Dermabrasion also exfoliates dead skin by blasting tiny particles onto the skin's surface.
  • Dermal rolling uses fine needles that are rolled over the face to stimulate collagen production below the skin and aid with product penetration.

How Much Can I Save on Facial Wrinkle Treatments in Seoul?

In most cases, patients are able to save around 50% in Seoul. This is compared to prices for the same facial wrinkle treatment in Western countries like Australia and the US.
