The Ultimate Guide to Dermal Fillers in Mexico

Introduction

Last fact-checked: 27 August 2021

With Medical Departures, you can search for clinics and compare prices for dermal fillers in Mexico. If you’re seeking ways to restore your youthful appearance, but don’t want surgery, a wide variety of injectable treatments can help to plump out wrinkles and reduce the appearance of fine facial lines.

Dermal fillers are typically used as anti-aging products but they can also be used to plump lips, improve scars and enhance the contours of your face.

While dermal fillers in Mexico cost substantially less than in the United States and Canada, they are relatively inexpensive compared to surgery.  It probably isn’t cost-effective to travel specifically to Mexico for dermal filler treatments unless you are already planning on being in Mexico or you live relatively near the border.

We always recommend that you do your research before heading abroad, making sure you book your procedure with reliable practitioners at a reliable, reputable clinic. This isn’t always easy to do away from home, which is where Medical Departures can help.

Our listings give details of clinics and practitioners we have already background-checked. We look at legal/criminal records, confirm qualifications and perform clinic visits. We also gather authentic patient reviews (positive and negative); these measures taken together provide us with an overall picture of the quality of the clinic and the services they offer. If we’re not happy, we don’t list them.

What Types of Dermal Filler Are Available in Mexico and How Do They Work?

You will discover a wide array of dermal fillers, and the same brands you'll find at home are available in Mexico (as well as new products that are being developed and approved for use). Some are permanent and some are non-permanent and can be divided into the following categories:

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers

These are not permanent, producing a gentle result that fades gradually after a period of months. The advantage is that you can decide when and if you want to have the results topped up. The result usually lasts up to a year, sometimes longer.

One of the most popular fillers, these contain hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the body and, therefore, offers good compatibility.

Brands include Restylane®, Juvederm® and Perlane®.

Synthetic Dermal Fillers

The ingredients found in synthetic dermal fillers are not found naturally in the skin. The benefits of these fillers over the hyaluronic acid ones is that they offer longer-lasting results. However, they may also cause an allergic reaction. Some are permanent and may cause disfigurement if used incorrectly–with surgery the only way of correcting it. A qualified filler specialist can greatly reduce this risk.

Brands include Radiesse®, Sculptra® and Bellafill®.

Collagen Dermal Fillers

These products require allergy testing prior to application as they contain collagen from animals, including cows (Zyplast® and Zyderm®), pigs (Evolence®) and a hybrid product (Artefill®®, aka Artecol in Europe) including tiny plastic spheres and cow collagen. The results only lasted for about a month.

However, new methods have been developed which contain collagen from humans (Cosmoplast® and COsmoderm®), with some made from your own skin (Autologen® and Isolagen®) and some from cadaver skin (Dermalogen®). They are not permanent, and the results don’t last as long as some other treatments, but they are considered more natural-looking.

Dermal fillers obviously do not provide the same dramatic results as one would experience with surgery, although if you have your lips plumped it will more-than-likely be noticeable.

What Does the Treatment Involve for Dermal Fillers?

You will normally be administered local anesthesia prior to the treatment starts. Injection points for each area to be treated are selected and the correct amount of filler drawn into the syringe, which is then injected beneath the skin.

You may experience some discomfort, redness and localized swelling immediately after the treatment. You can usually resume normal activities immediately. You can apply makeup to disguise the redness, and you will be advised to keep out of the sun for a day or two.

Results should be starting to be noticeable after several days.

What Is the Cost of Dermal Fillers in Mexico Compared to the United States and Canada?

Prices are usually quoted as a full syringe, but some may quote for specific areas on the face. It should be noted that some areas, such as the nasolabial folds, usually require two syringes, and that the different types of fillers may be priced differently.

Prices average $400 (CAD $500, £250 GBP, €350, AUD $500) for dermal fillers in Mexico, compared to $625 (CAD $750, £400 GBP, €500, AUD $800) in the United States.

[Please note: these prices are approximate estimates based on international data, calculated at the time of writing.]

I got the 360 Lipo (opted out for the tummy tuck) - I was EXTREMELY impressed with their organisation, i arrived and was transported to the apartment i arranged, they would pick me up and drop me off each time i needed to visit (communicated over WhatsApp). When i arrived it was a rush to get payment but they were patient when a few of my cards didnt work (i suggest you bring multiple credit cards). There was a lack of communication on what to expect during and AFTER surgery, black and enlarged scrotum had me worried and wasnt warned about it and i had to google what i needed to do after surgery for recovery, they didnt sit me down and walk me through the process, just put me on a bed and was done, they did regularily check me when in the bed after surgery and was very professional, but most of the staff there had to use translators on their phone to communicate. I felt it was worth the money to get the surgery done and was a suitable place for the budget. Suggest you do NOT do this alone, took me 7 days recovery in Turkey before being able to travel back to AU, had a final checkup day before leaving.
