Laser Skin Resurfacing in Mexico

The Ultimate Guide to Laser Skin Resurfacing in Mexico

Last fact-checked: 18 August 2020

Find quality-checked cosmetic surgeons for laser skin resurfacing in Mexico. This is still one of the newest of the skin resurfacing treatments, although lasers have been in medical use for decades. In common with other techniques to resurface and condition the skin, the treatment enhances your appearance by removing dead skin cells and stimulating the growth of newer ones to give you a fresher, younger-looking appearance.

We can help you find suitably experienced cosmetic surgeons and reliable clinics throughout Mexico who offer laser skin resurfacing (sometimes called laser skin rejuvenation) at prices at least 50% lower than in the United States.

Why Choose Mexico for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Mexico is one of the most popular countries in the world for medical tourists, and while most arrive from the United States and Canada, a growing number are now flying in from other parts of the world, particularly Europe.

Like many other leading medical tourism destinations, Mexico offers state-of-the-art facilities that offer the finest quality treatments and standards of care to rival the best anywhere. With the growth of the country’s medical (and traditional) tourism industry, infrastructure has simultaneously improved, while visitors have a wide choice of locations to choose from—whether it’s the white, sandy beaches of Cancun, the arty scene in Puerto Vallarta or the exciting pace of Mexico City.

Why Book with Medical Departures?

Not everywhere in Mexico offers the same facilities and standards you would expect at home, which is why you should always do some research yourself. Knowledge is, as they say, power—and knowing about your upcoming treatment—the pros; the cons; the expected results, etc., can go a long way toward helping you achieve your goals. Knowing what to ask is part of the process of determining whether it’s right for you.

As laser skin resurfacing is considered to be a surgical procedure, there is a certain amount of downtime and, as with all surgeries, carries some risk. People vary in their body’s reactions, how quickly they heal and their anatomy, so outcomes are never entirely predictable. You can limit your risks by ensuring your laser skin resurfacing is performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon.

Medical Departures helps you to find suitably qualified surgeons by running some background checks, including legal/criminal proceedings; qualifications and professional memberships. Visiting clinics and collating real patient reviews is also part of our measures to ensure that we have a well-rounded view so that our patients can choose in confidence.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work and Who Is it Suitable for?

Laser skin resurfacing works by removing the outer layers of damaged skin, which promotes the growth of new, smoother, tighter skin.

The procedure can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, particularly around the eyes and mouth, and it is also used in treating areas of uneven pigmentation and facial scars. It can be carried out on the whole face, or specific areas, either as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other cosmetic surgery, such as an eyelid lift.

What Happens During the Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure?

Laser resurfacing is usually performed on an out-patient basis, unless you are having an extensive procedure, or combining it with other surgery, in which case you may be admitted to the hospital as an inpatient.

If you are having extensive treatment, a general anesthetic will be given, but otherwise you will be given a local anesthetic with sedation. The procedure is fairly swift, on average around half an hour, but up to two hours if a larger area is being treated.

A laser beam is passed over the skin, back and forth, until the surgeon reaches the level where the line, wrinkle or scar is less visible. Following treatment, cream, ointment or even a bandage may be applied, which will protect the skin for the next few days.

What Is the Recovery Time for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

It is important to note that the more aggressive the treatment, then the longer the downtime is likely to be.

Mild swelling, redness and discomfort are all normal, and you can relieve this with pain-relieving medication and ice packs. If you had a bandage on after the procedure, it will be replaced after a few days, and this will continue for up to 10 days. Crusting of the skin and weeping is likely, as well as redness. Any crusting should fade after 10 days.

Your skin may be red for a couple of weeks, after which make-up can be worn to conceal any pinkness that may remain for the next few months. You may find your skin is sensitive to products you wore before, so you may have to try different products until your skin calms down. You will have to wear a high factor sunscreen to prevent damage to your new skin, which could result in hyperpigmentation.
