For your reference:

There are any number of reasons you may want a tummy tuck. Pregnancy, weight gain and weight loss, and even just getting older–all can cause our skin to stretch, leaving it baggy and loose, and in some cases forming unattractive folds.

As long as you are over 18, don’t intend to get pregnant again and have a reasonable expectation as to the outcome you may be a suitable candidate for the procedure.

Note: More information about pregnancy after tummy tuck surgery can be found here.

The Philippines is making a name for itself as a medical tourism center. Like many other developing nations, the cost of living is really low here, which means your doctor’s office rental, utilities, staffing costs and all those other things that have to be covered in your bill are less–which of course, means your bill is too!

The low costs here are no reflection on the services being inferior and you ‘get what you pay for’. In fact, it couldn’t be further from the truth. Services aimed at medical tourists are generally exceptionally high. If they weren’t then people just wouldn’t come. Medical tourism tends to be a symbiotic relationship between providers and patients – and one simply wouldn’t exist without the other.

The country may be classed as a developing nation in comparison to developed Western nations, but you can rely on medical training, facilities and expertise to be just as good as it is at home. Medical education is fairly similar throughout the world now, and it isn’t unusual for doctors to undertake at least part of their training in another country. Many Filipino doctors go to the United States, as well as other Western nations, such as Australia, or the UK. You’ll also find that Filipino specialists are just as likely to be affiliated with international organizations, such as ISAPS, as doctors from elsewhere in the world.

The Philippines is a tremendous country for a holiday and whatever floats your boat, you’re bound to find it here. Impressive scenery, thousands of islands, the mega capital that is Manila and friendly natives who all speak English.

Finally, we always recommend you do a little of your own research, for your own peace of mind. We know it’s not always easy to find out information about doctors overseas, so we’ve made it easier. We background check all our listings and you can see doctor qualifications and professional memberships, as well as real patient reviews, virtual clinic tours and high-definition photos all on our website – so you can be sure that when you book with us, the credentials stack up.

How Long Will the Tummy Tuck Take?

The tummy tuck surgery can take anything between one and three hours to complete – as it depends on how much excess tissue you have removed. There are a number of techniques that your surgeon can use for the procedure, which you can discuss with your surgeon in more detail. What you can be sure of is that they will try and make the incisions in places that can be hidden underneath clothing, like bikini bottoms.

What Is the Recovery Time After a Tummy Tuck?

Immediately after the tummy tuck, you’ll feel stiff and sore. Expect to see some bruising and inflammation. This is fairly major surgery and it may come as a surprise to you just how much you use those tummy muscles – even just trying to sit up may be very uncomfortable at least for the first few days. You may be wearing a compression garment to help ease the inflammation, and you may have wound drains inserted.

You will not be permitted to bathe until the wounds have healed, although showering will be alright once your surgeon gives you the go-ahead. It may well take a few weeks before you are able to get around reasonably well. However, it is recommended that you do try and keep on your feet as much as possible as it really helps with bringing down the swelling and speeding your recovery.

Gradually, over the next few weeks you will start to feel a lot better, but you will need to take it easy and not embark on any vigorous exercise for around six weeks.
