In recent years, Costa Rica has become a preferred destination for travelers from the United States and other parts of the world who are interested in lower-priced, high-quality medical care, and the chance to recuperate in a tropical environment.

Find out how you can take advantage of low-cost cosmetic surgery while enjoying a welcome vacation with this guide.

Rhinoplasty, which is often referred to as a nose job, can be used to:

  • Reshape the tip of the nose
  • Remove a bump
  • Straighten a crooked nose
  • Alter the angle between the nose and upper lip
  • Widen or narrow the nostrils
  • Correct a deviated septum
To be a suitable candidate, you should have been considering surgery already for a good amount of time (rather than as a spontaneous decision), and also be in good overall health.

Why Have Rhinoplasty in San Jose, Costa Rica?

Traveling to San Jose can be a great way to enjoy a tropical vacation while also taking advantage of the opportunity to enhance your appearance and gain improved self-confidence.

Since Costa Rica is bordered by the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, this Latin American country offers a range of activities. Whether you are interested in relaxing on the beach, snorkeling or diving, or taking a rainforest tour, there is truly something for everyone here.

While Costa Rica is well known for its stunning natural beauty, there are also many other reasons to travel here for rhinoplasty, including more affordable pricing. Patients generally find it much less expensive to have rhinoplasty in Costa Rica than in the US. Additionally, you will discover many excellent hospitals and highly qualified physicians in Costa Rica. Many of the surgeons specializing in rhinoplasty are US board-certified and members of associations such as the Rhinoplasty Society.

Finding a Trusted Surgeon with Medical Departures

Since we understand how important it is for you to choose a reputable clinic and surgeon, Medical Departures can help by offering a list of surgeons and clinics that have passed our background check.

Our clinic review process includes confirmation of professional memberships and qualifications, as well as performing criminal and legal checks. Before including a facility on our list, we visit it in person. Finally, for your complete peace of mind, we interview patients who have used that clinic and surgeon, and we publish the results on our site.

How Long Does Rhinoplasty Take and What Should I Expect from the Recovery Process?

The first step in having rhinoplasty is to meet with your surgeon to discuss your goals. Your doctor will usually complete a full medical history and exam. During your consultation, you will also discuss with your doctor which method would be best to achieve your desired goals. The two most common methods include open and closed techniques. The closed technique allows the incisions to be hidden inside your nose.

Your surgeon will make several incisions and then gently lift the skin over the bridge of the nose. Grafts may need to be used to achieve your desired look. In some cases, it may be necessary to also remove bone or cartilage. Projections inside the nose may need to be straightened if you have a deviated septum. Finally, the incisions will be closed and the skin redraped over your nose.

This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and you should expect it to take up to two hours to complete. After your procedure, you may notice the presence of a splint and packing to support your newly shaped nose. If you experience any pain after your procedure, your doctor may give you oral painkillers.

Other important considerations following surgery are:

  • Swelling is common and you may also have some bruising which should dissipate within one week.
  • The recovery time for rhinoplasty is relatively short, allowing you to be up and about the following day, taking things easy.
  • You may be advised to limit your activities for up to a week.
  • Patients are generally able to see the full results of their procedure within six months to one year (after all swelling has gone and the nose has assumed its final shape).

What Is the Cost of Rhinoplasty in San Jose Compared to the US and Canada?

The average cost of rhinoplasty in San Jose, Costa Rica is $2,900 (EUR €2,634, AUD $3,898, GBP £2,037) compared to $8,800 (EUR € 7,889, AUD $ 12,307, GBP £6,101) in the United States.

I got the 360 Lipo (opted out for the tummy tuck) - I was EXTREMELY impressed with their organisation, i arrived and was transported to the apartment i arranged, they would pick me up and drop me off each time i needed to visit (communicated over WhatsApp). When i arrived it was a rush to get payment but they were patient when a few of my cards didnt work (i suggest you bring multiple credit cards). There was a lack of communication on what to expect during and AFTER surgery, black and enlarged scrotum had me worried and wasnt warned about it and i had to google what i needed to do after surgery for recovery, they didnt sit me down and walk me through the process, just put me on a bed and was done, they did regularily check me when in the bed after surgery and was very professional, but most of the staff there had to use translators on their phone to communicate. I felt it was worth the money to get the surgery done and was a suitable place for the budget. Suggest you do NOT do this alone, took me 7 days recovery in Turkey before being able to travel back to AU, had a final checkup day before leaving.
