Surprisingly, South Korea isn’t on the tourist map for Westerners in the same way as some other Asian countries – at least not yet. But if you generally like visiting Asian countries then it should be on your list. The people are warm; the cities are modern and exciting – especially Seoul – and it has tremendous countryside and coastlines to explore and relax beside.
South Korea is certainly on the tourist map for visitors from other Asian countries, and particularly so for medical tourists, where it has quite a reputation for excellence. Medical tourism is big here – so much so that even in the airport there is a medical tourist office, and you can’t miss the countless advertisements for beauty and plastic surgery clinics that are ubiquitous.
Koreans think nothing of improving their face and bodies and from graduating school girls to retirees a lot of people here have had some kind of work done. The surgeons must be highly experienced in this part of the world!
Liposuction is a relatively straightforward procedure in comparison to other surgical techniques, and the downtime relatively minimal. However, this shouldn’t stop you doing your own due diligence. With so many clinics to choose from at low prices it’s easy to get carried away, which is why Medical Departures does its own background checks.
We list professional memberships and qualifications on our site; provide real patient reviews and high-definition clinic photos, as well as lots of other useful information, including prices. We also visit clinics personally, and only list those on our site that we would be happy to go to ourselves.
You can have liposuction to just one or multiple areas on your body – each area taking an average 45 minutes to complete. There are different techniques that can be used to liquefy fat, including ultrasound or with a saline solution injected through a small incision. Once the fat is liquefied it can be removed via a suction device inserted through a small incision. Once complete the incision is stitched closed, leaving a very small scar which eventually fades to be hardly noticeable.
You may be wearing a compression garment after the procedure and you will more-than-likely feel a little sore. Fluid may lead from the incision area for a couple of days and there may be bruising and swelling which reaches its peak after about a week. You will, of course, need to take things easy and you will feel stiff, but once the swelling and bruising starts to subside you will feel increasingly better and more mobile, gradually being able to resume your normal activities. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for 6 weeks.
The average cost of liposuction in South Korea is around 50% less than it is in Australia.
