Hair Transplant in Thailand

The Ultimate Guide to Hair Transplant in Thailand

Permanent hair loss is a problem that you may be able to solve with hair transplants in Thailand. You’ll save at least 50% on the costs at home, and if your thinning or receding hairline is getting you down then why not consider having the procedure in Thailand – and treat yourself to a relaxing holiday too.

Not everyone is suitable for a hair transplant and you are more likely to be if:

· Your hair loss is not caused by medication or stress
· Your hair loss cannot be treated non-surgically
· Your hair loss is permanent
· You have sufficient follicles for the transplant

You are unlikely to be suitable if you are completely bald.

Why have Hair Transplants in Thailand?

With a worldwide reputation as a center of excellence for medical tourism, there aren’t many better places to go for a hair transplant than Thailand. Medical tourism is a major industry here and the quality of the care and the facilities are outstanding.

Doctors are well trained and qualified with board certification and memberships of international professional organizations, such as the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons.

It is advisable to check out your doctor and clinic on the internet and see what you can find out about them, such as patient reviews and their certifications. At Medical Departures we background check all of our doctors, both from a legal and criminal viewpoint, and we also check qualifications, professional memberships and experience. You know if you book with us that your surgeon is reliable and trustworthy.

The hair restoration options that are available in the United States, Europe and Australasia are all available in Thailand. In fact, Thailand is so advanced that there are procedures that you will see performed here, which are rarely done elsewhere, such as beard transplants.

The cost of hair transplants are considerably less in Thailand, and even having a great holiday here you will still more than likely spend far less than you would at home.

What is the procedure for Hair Transplants in Thailand and when will I expect to have hair?

There are several different methods for hair transplants:

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction): where the grafts come from small groups harvested around the scalp, and then implanted into the required site

Strip harvesting: where a whole strip of hair is removed and dissected into smaller groups before implanting into the required site.

Flap surgery: where a whole section of scalp is removed and replaced with a section containing follicles.
Scalp reduction: where a section of the bald scalp is removed and the hairline pulled forward to cover the bald spot.

After the transplant it is likely that the hair will fall out, but it will start to grow back after 3 months – thicker and stronger.

It is worth bearing in mind that:

· improvements tend to look better on curly, thick hair rather than fine hair
· you may need multiple sessions over a period of years
· you may want to wait until your hair loss has stopped or you will have to keep having treatment as new bald patches appear.

What is the cost of hair transplants in Thailand compared to Australia?

A variety of factors will affect the price, including the procedure used, the amount of grafts and the number of sessions required, so giving an exact cost is difficult. However, in Thailand, hair transplants start from around AUD $1,300 (US $900; CAD $1,200; GBP £600; Euros 800), compared to Australia where it is in excess of AUD $3,500 (US $2,400; CAD $3,200; GBP £1,600; Euros 2,200).
