Why Choose Thailand for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Thailand has an excellent reputation for medical tourism. It has been a leader in this area since the 1990s, but it hasn’t rested on its laurels. The quality of its facilities, the expertise, the infrastructure and its customer care ethic has ensured it still attracts millions of visitors to its medical, surgical, health, wellness, beauty and spa centers every year.

Bangkok still remains a favorite destination for many medical tourists, but there are excellent facilities throughout the country, including major holiday hotspots in Thailand, such as Phuket and Chiang Mai.

Why Book with Medical Departures?

Laser skin resurfacing treatments are surgical procedures, and should be carried out in a hospital or clinic setting, by someone who has the requisite experience and skill to administer the treatment – usually a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist.

We can help you find reliable and quality-checked doctors who have the expertise in carrying out laser skin resurfacing procedures. Although no surgical treatment is entirely without risk (as we all react and heal at different rates), you can tilt the success of your treatment in your favor by ensuring you choose a trustworthy provider.

To help this process, we have already done all of the necessary checks on the doctors and clinics listed on our site – including checking legal/criminal proceedings, professional memberships and qualifications. We list this information on our site along with our patients’ reviews and high-definition clinic photos. Booking with us gives you an assurance that your clinic and doctor meets the requirements that we would expect, so you can choose with confidence.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work and Who Is it Suitable for?

Laser skin resurfacing promotes new skin growth which will be smoother, tighter and blemish-free, by removing the damaged outer layers of skin.

The treatment can be performed to a specific area on the face, such as around the eyes, or to the whole face. It is also often performed with other cosmetic surgery treatments, such as a facelift.

What Happens During the Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure?

Unless you are having an extensive treatment, most laser skin resurfacing procedures are done as an out-patient, not usually requiring an overnight hospital stay. General anesthetic is only given for the extensive procedures, or if you are having other cosmetic surgery at the same time, You will normally be given local anesthetic and sedation.

The laser beam is moved backwards and forwards across the skin until the surgeon is happy that the lines, scars or wrinkles are less visible. Cream or ointment is applied when the treatment has finished, and maybe a bandage to protect the skin for five to ten days.

What Is the Recovery Time for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

You will experience redness, swelling and discomfort immediately after the treatment, which you can help to ease with ice packs and pain medication. If you have a bandage on, it will be replaced after a few days, and this will be repeated until the skin is healed. You are likely to have skin crusting/scabbing, with possibly some weeping, and you may be itchy as the skin begins to heal – it is important not to rub the crusts/scabs off, which may lead to scarring of your new skin.

After a couple of weeks, you will be able to wear makeup to conceal any pinkness, which may remain for up to six months. Some people experience hypersensitivity when using their makeup products, so you may have to change brands until any irritation settles down. It is important that you wear a high-factor sunscreen to protect your new skin from sun damage.
