Lip enhancement treatments include surgical (which may be referred to as lip augmentation) and non-invasive procedures, as well as temporary and permanent solutions:

Injectables: the quickest and easiest method of enhancing lips, usually by adding volume. Restylane® and Juvederm® are facial fillers that can also be used on the lips. They are temporary, lasting around three months, quick to perform (the injections take only minutes) and you can return to your everyday activities immediately.

Autologous Fat Transfer: This is usually carried out if you are having liposuction on another part of the body and the removed fat can be cleansed and processed and put into your lips.

Surgery:

• Dermal grafts – Fat-grafts are taken from deep skin layers and placed in the lips through incisions made on the inside of the mouth.
• Lip implants – Natural or synthetic implants are inserted into the lips through incisions at the corners of the mouth.
• Lip lifts – An incision is made under the nose so the skin underneath it can be pulled up and tightened. This has the effect of pulling the top lip as well, increasing its size. Similar incisions can be made at the corners of the mouth to improve a downward turning mouth by removing excess skin.
• Vermillion advancement – To increase lip size, a thin strip of skin is removed from around the lip line. The lips are then stretched to meet the remaining skin and stitched. The scars are hidden at the lip margin and will gradually fade so they are virtually unnoticeable.

Most lip surgeries take a few days to recover from, and it may be another few weeks before all the swelling and bruising has completely subsided.

Most injections are done in a matter of moments, and apart from a little stinging, redness and slight swelling initially, after a few hours, you should experience no more discomfort.
