Want to overhaul your body and get rid of loose, sagging skin? You can get a body lift in Johor Bharu, one of Malaysia’s fastest-growing cities – and little wonder with it’s location in the heart of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Singapore triangle.
The city has become one of the main commercial centres in the area with visitors from nearby Singapore in particular making regular trips for shopping, dining and entertainment.
A body lift is usually undertaken by patients who have lost a lot of weight – typically, but not always, following a bariatric surgery procedure. One of the problems of weight loss in very obese patients is that the skin is stretched and once the weight has gone it hangs in sagging folds. A body lift can remove this loose skin from the upper, mid or lower body.
Johor Bharu is a thriving commercial centre with a steady stream of tourists from nearby Indonesia and Singapore. Lots of investment from Singapore, the United States, Spain, Japan and China has seen a developing economy with financial services, arts, culture, commerce, retail and tourism the main sectors.
According to many reports, medical tourism is a growing sector in Malaysia. The government is taking measures to promote it and Johor Bharu is perfectly placed to accept patients from nearby Singapore, where prices are considerably more expensive.
Johor Bharu’s transport links are good. The city is served by Senai International Airport; there are direct bus services to many destinations in the country, as well as Singapore and Thailand, and there is the new Shuttle Train which takes less than 5 minutes to Singapore’s Woodlands.
A city on the up, Johor Bharu boasts modern private healthcare facilities that are a match for the best anywhere in the world. US and UK patients are particularly drawn to Malaysia for medical treatment, thanks to its low prices, advanced healthcare facilities and medical professionals who are well trained and hold affiliations such as Joint Commission International accreditation - and many having completed some of their education abroad.

The procedure takes, on average, around 5 hours, but it could be more or it could be less – it’s really dependent on how extensive your body lift s going to be.
Prior to the surgery you will, of course, have a discussion with your surgeon over what areas are going to be tackled and what your desired result is.
The body lift is performed under a general anesthetic and long incisions are made across the areas already agreed upon. The skin is pulled taut at these incisions and the excess skin and underlying tissue removed with a scalpel. The remainder is then pulled together and held in place with sutures. Where possible, incisions will be made in inconspicuous places that can be hidden underneath underwear, or a bikini.
Be under no illusion that a body lift is considered to be major surgery, and it is likely that as multiple sited on your body will have been involved you will feel very uncomfortable after. Pain medication will, of course, be given to you, but trying to settle in a restful position may not be so easy.
You may well be wearing compression garments after the surgery, which will ease the swelling, and you may have wound drainage tubes inserted to draw fluid away from the incision areas – these may also make it more difficult to find a comfortable position.
Although you won’t feel like it, you will be encouraged to get up and move around as soon as you can after surgery. This helps significantly in the recovery process by reducing swelling and also helps to prevent problems like deep vein thrombosis.
It’s likely to be several weeks before your discomfort eases considerably, and at least a month before you feel up to going back to work. You will need to take things easy, with no strenuous activity for 6 weeks. Over the coming months you will gradually heal, but it could be up to a year before you’ve healed completely inside and out.
You'll save at least 50% on body lifts in Johor Bahru than you would in Australia.
