Holidaying in Malaysia or Singapore and fancy a ‘lunchtime facelift’? You can undergo Botox in Johor Bahru for a fraction of the cost you’d pay at home - and Malaysia’s fastest-growing city is a mere five minutes away from Singapore’s Woodlands on the high-speed train.
Botox is one of the world’s most popular wrinkle treatments, and little wonder; it’s quick, has very little in the way of side-effects or downtime and results are noticeable in a short space of time.
Botox is actually the brand name for one type of botulinum toxin (there are others available) and it is used particularly on frown lines on the forehead, or in between the eyes, but it can be used on other areas of the face.
While most people have Botox as a wrinkle treatment it can also be used to control excessive sweating in the palms, feet or armpits by blocking the nerves responsible for stimulating the sweat glands.
Johor Bahru is one of Malaysia’s most popular cities for visitors – especially from neighboring Singapore and Indonesia. The city is developing rapidly and has great shopping, dining and entertainment – and all at much lower prices.
This is also true of its healthcare services, and rising costs in other countries have attracted more visitors to seek medical tourism in Malaysia’s state-of-the-art medical facilities. A modern infrastructure and the availability of a wide array of medical specialties – from fertility procedures to cardiac surgery to cosmetic dermatology – has ensured increasing numbers traveling here from overseas.
One of the major plus points is the language – English is spoken widely, and particularly by the medical community – so you won't find it difficult to be understood. It's also an ideal location for those visiting or based in Singpaore, with the option to drive, take a taxi or jump on the train that connects Johor Bahru with the Lion City.
Malaysia is also a holiday destination in its own right with all the services and amenities visitors need and expect, as well as all the other holiday attractions, including stunning beaches, exotic locations and a charming culture.
There’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a great experience in Johor Bahru either as a tourist or a patient. While standards are generally high and many facilities have affiliations such as being Joint Commission International-accredited, we’d always advise you to do a little of your own research. We realize it’s not always easy to research foreign destinations, so we’ve already done some of the basics. We run legal/criminal records checks, verify doctor qualifications and professional memberships and make sure we visit the clinics personally. We publish real patient testimonials and high definition clinic photos on or site, giving you the opportunity to ‘look before you book’ with all the information you need at your fingertips.
Prior to the treatment commencing your practitioner will discuss with you what you would like to achieve and decide what areas are to be treated. Once agreed the procedure simply involves injecting the Botox into the area with a fine-needled syringe. If you are having more than one area treated the process will be repeated in the separate areas.
The actual treatment should be over in less than 30 minutes.
There’s very little downtime after Botox treatment. Your skin may be a little red in the treated areas, and there may be some bruising and/or inflammation, but it’s usually only mild and will clear up within a day or two.
Some people notice the effect straight away as the muscles begin to relax. However, it may take a few weeks before the full effects become apparent. The first treatment usually lasts around three months, but you can have top-ups to keep-up the effects. Botox is said to be a ‘cumulative treatment’ in that the effects are more noticeable and last longer the more you have it.
Prices vary depending on how many units of Botox are used but in Johor Bahru, you'll generally save money compared to the price you'd pay at home:
Average per-unit price of Botox in Australia is AUD $20 (NZD $21; UK £11; €13.40; US $15; CAN $20) compared to Botox prices in Johor Bahru of AUD $8 (NZD $8.22; UK £4.60; €5.27; US $6, CAN $7.83)
