Botox is a popular cosmetic treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. When injected into the targeted muscles, the botulinum toxin in the Botox serum works by blocking nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract, which in turn causes the wrinkles to appear.

By relaxing these muscles, the serum softens the look of wrinkles, fine lines, and furrows, resulting in a more youthful appearance. The procedure is relatively quick and virtually painless, and the effects can last up to six months before a touch-up is required. 

It's important to note that while Botox is generally considered safe, it should only be administered by a qualified and experienced medical professional.

How Long Does it Take?

The procedure usually takes just a few minutes for each area. In most cases, it's possible to be in and out of the clinic in less than an hour.

Botulinum is most commonly applied to smooth part of the forehead (the glabella) that lies between the eyebrows, as well as the lines around the eyes (crow’s feet). Botox can be applied to other facial areas, including the nasolabial lines and corners of the mouth, as well as for lifting eyebrows, gummy smile reduction and on neckbands.

Botulinum is also used to correct other medical conditions besides facial wrinkles, such as excessive sweating, muscle spasms, migraines and even squints.

As with any injection, you may experience localized reddening of the skin, swelling or bruising. However, this usually only lasts for a few days. Most people return to normal activities the day after the procedure, although it's best to avoid alcohol and excessive exercise until any noticeable side effects subside. 

Patients are also advised not to lie down for several hours after the procedure. 

In the hands of an experienced clinician, Botox is a very safe procedure. However, if the injections aren’t administered correctly, you may run a small risk of the botulinum toxin spreading to other parts of the body causing botulism; or to nearby tissues causing problems such as a crooked smile or drooping eyelids.
