Last fact-checked: 23 July 2020

Looking at breast augmentation in Johor Bahru—one of Malaysia’s top up-and-coming cities? Medical Departures can help you find experienced, well-qualified surgeons who can give you the breasts you’ve always wanted for a price you’ve only dreamed of having to pay!

Why Breast Augmentation?

Also referred to as breast implants, augmentation mammoplasty, or informally a “boob job,” this procedure is the most popular cosmetic surgery for women around the world.

Breast augmentations not only boost size, but also add volume and change shape. They can help women who:

  • Feel self-conscious about having small breasts

  • Have lost volume through pregnancy or weight reduction

  • Have uneven-sized breasts

You don’t have to suffer in silence—a boob job can really boost your confidence and make you feel a lot better about yourself.

Why Should I Have a Breast Augmentation in Johor Bahru?

Johor Bahru is one of Malaysia’s most exciting cities and is popular with visitors from Singapore and Indonesia thanks to the close proximity. Other visitors come from as far away as the US and the UK. For many years, Malaysia has proven itself as a favorite destination because of its diverse cultures, interesting landscapes and stunning natural landscape—along with the fact that English is spoken in most parts of the country.

Malaysia is currently a hot destination for medical tourism. Affordable air travel, together with rising costs and long waiting lists back home have catalyzed the growth of healthcare travel. As well as offering affordable prices, Malaysia has an excellent private healthcare infrastructure, making life easier for an influx of medical travelers (excellent travel links; good-quality accommodation and the services and amenities you would expect). Medical tourists are finding their experiences to be positive, encouraging them to return for further care or pass on the good word.

Although Asian tourists make up the majority of medical travel to Malaysia, the government is hoping that Western patients will soon cotton-on to what Asians have been benefiting from for many years. Namely, reliable care provided fully-qualified, experienced doctors in state-of-the-art facilities.

Malaysia has the added benefit of being a safe country with plenty about it in terms of tourist attractions. So, for visitors making a holiday of it, either pre- or post-surgery, there’s certainly enough to see, do and experience.

Why Book with Medical Departures?

At Medical Departures, we understand you may feel more than a little trepidation when traveling abroad for surgery. With real patient reviews and high-definition clinic photos, you can see this information for yourself, giving you a much better idea of whether you want to book with that particular facility.

What Does a Breast Augmentation Procedure Involve and How Long Does it Take?

There are a number of techniques for breast augmentation, and the one used may depend on your own anatomy as much as your surgeon’s particular preferences. This will be discussed with you in detail prior to the surgery, along with:

  • Your preference for the type of implants (saline or silicone)

  • The shape of the implants (such as round or teardrop-shaped)

  • Size (i.e. the number of cup sizes you wish to go up by, which is normally one or two)

The implants will be inserted through incisions made either below the armpit, below the breast, in the crease where it joins the chest wall, or around the coloured area of the nipple.

The breast augmentation procedure shouldn’t take longer than a couple of hours, although you will need to factor in more time spent at the facility beforehand for the planning stage and after as you recover under the supervision of the doctor and nursing staff.

What Is the Recovery Time for Breast Augmentation and When Can I Return to Work?

Recovery time after breast augmentation is reasonably brief compared to other types of plastic surgery. You will feel tender and stiff across the chest area for several days, and there may well be some bruising. Most people can resume their normal routines after a couple of days, with many going back to work after a week.

You should discuss with your surgeon in Johor Bahru about how long you will need to stay in Malaysia—booking flights with flexible return dates is always a good idea for this situation.

You will need to take things easy following surgery, with no heavy lifting, vigorous exercise or contact sports for around six weeks.

How Much Can I Save on Breast Augmentation in Johor Bahru Compared to Australia or New Zealand?

Prices are usually at least 50% less in Johor Bahru for breast augmentation compared to Australia. For instance, prices at our top clinics in Johor Bahru start at around AUD $5,000-$6,000.
