Americans and Canadians discovered years ago that Mexico was the place to come to for affordable medical and dental procedures. However, the quality could not necessarily be relied upon. This has changed immeasurably in recent years. Mexico is now a leading medical tourist destination, rivalling Thailand as the preferred choice for low-cost surgery.
Just as in the United States, Mexico has fully-qualified, specialist surgeons; first-rate facilities and an infrastructure to give you outstanding medical care; a personalized, professional service that is high on customer satisfaction and costs that are around 50% lower than in the US.
However, if you’re contemplating surgery anywhere, you really should do your own due diligence and do your own research on reputation, qualifications, hospitals/clinics and, if important to you, whether they speak English.
There is a wealth of information available online, but booking through Medical Departures makes things a whole lot easier as we have already done this part for you. You can look at individual clinic listings, see the doctors available, their qualifications, professional memberships, real patient reviews and high-definition photos of the clinics. We have already pre-screened legal/criminal records too, so booking through us means you already have a head-start on finding your doctor. Now all you need to do is compare prices and figure out which location in Mexico you want to go to.
Mexico is a vast country, and from locations near the border, to world-class holiday resorts such as Cancun, or from the Capital, Mexico City to beautiful colonial towns, such as Puebla, you’ll find the perfect place to relax in before or after your breast revision surgery.
The surgery takes between 1 and 3 hours, but the length of time and the actual procedure is determined by the extent of the breast revision you require. Moving implants, manipulating scar tissue, or increasing the size of the implant will obviously take longer that a like-for-like swap of the same sized implant in the same position.
You will be given a general anesthetic for your surgery, and your surgeon will make incisions in the existing scars. After the old implant has been removed or replaced, your wound will be stitched, so that there will be no new scarring.
For 48 hours after surgery you will feel very sore, but you will be given pain relief medication to help this. Bruising, stiffness and swelling will also be evident, but they will begin to subside after a week or so.
You should be able to fully engage in your everyday activities after 2 weeks, and return to work – many people do so after a week. Be careful stretching and bending, which causes strain to the area, and refrain from heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for around 6 weeks.
Breast revision in Mexico is, on average $3,000 compared to $6,000 in the United States.
