Discover double eyelid surgery in Pattaya – the former quiet fishing village that now attracts visitors to its raucous party scene by night and beach-related activities by day. Not for the shy and retiring, Pattaya is young-at-heart offering fun-filled activities, including parasailing and jet-skiing.
For Asian clients looking to change their single upper eyelid into a double ‘creased’ eyelid, Pattaya, like other popular medical tourist destinations in Thailand, offers good quality, reliable care at safe, hygienic and modern facilities. In the midst of this tourist location, visitors are assured that all the services and facilities you need as a visitor are catered for here, so no need to worry you will be out in a remote backwater somewhere.
Pattaya has a good number of first-class hospitals. It is used to catering for tourists so why not medical tourists? As a global healthcare destination the number of visitors has been increasing steadily. This is partly because of the costs (it is considerably cheaper than home for most Westerners); partly because traveling abroad for medical procedures is now considered a viable option and partly because the quality of the care here is comparable (if not better) than at home.
Many of the medical facilities in Pattaya are modern and contemporary and equipped with the latest technologies. Coupled with the legendary Thai service and doctors who are well qualified with international affiliations of professional organizations such as ISAPS, and you have the perfect setting for a medical vacation.
Patients are drawn here from across the world, and what’s more, they usually have such a great experience that they come back for more work, as well as letting their friends and relatives know. This is why global healthcare is increasing, and if the services were in any way lacking then international clientele would soon stop coming.
It’s always worth your while doing a little of your own research before you commit to going abroad for surgery. Find out what’s involved in your procedure. Ask friends or people you know if they’ve had it and what their experience was. Read patient testimonials online. All these things help you build up a picture so you can work things out for yourself.
Booking with Medical Departures helps because we run our own background checks. We do onsite clinic visits and verify doctor credentials, including qualifications and professional memberships. We also obtain real patient reviews which we publish on our site, alongside high definition clinic photographs. This all helps you make your own well-informed decision and can help to put your mind at ease.
The procedure for double eyelid surgery is reasonably short – 30 minutes to an hour – and you should only require mild sedation or local anesthetic so will not need to stay in hospital overnight.
There are two basic techniques – the incision technique, where a cut is made across the upper eyelid, loose skin, fat and tissue removed and then the wound stitched, forming a natural crease; and the non-incision technique, where a fold is made in the eyelid and stitched to form the double eyelid. The problem with this latter technique is that it isn’t permanent, and after a few years it may well need to be done again. For this reason, the incision technique is now the most popular type of the two methods.
Immediately after surgery you can expect your eyes to feel bruised and sore, although you will be given pain medication to ease the discomfort. The swelling and bruising should reach a peak after a couple of days, and then will slowly start to subside. If you don’t have dissolvable stitches, these will be removed between 5 and 7 days. After that, you will be able to apply make-up to disguise the bruising and swelling, which will take up to 3 weeks to disappear – thank goodness for sunglasses!
You will be advised not to exert yourself too much, avoiding strenuous activities for 6 weeks. Your eyes will gradually settle down over the next few months, and will be completely healed between 6 months and a year.
