Why Have Laser Hair Removal in Mexico—and What Should I Consider?

For many of us who keep to a fastidious grooming regime, unwanted hair is the bane of our lives. Removing it is often a messy nuisance and the results are far shorter-lasting than we’d like.

Laser hair removal provides long-lasting results but it does require multiple sessions to stop hair growth entirely. It isn’t a particularly quick-fix solution, so if you are considering laser hair removal in Mexico, you want to be prepared to travel back for subsequent treatment sessions.

The number of treatments required is anything between six and 12, so as a one-off holiday procedure, it isn’t really advisable. However, if you travel to Mexico frequently or live close to the US-Mexico border, taking advantage of more affordable laser hair removal in Mexico could be an option.

Why Book with Medical Departures?

As with any medical or cosmetic procedure, it is imperative that you do your research beforehand, especially when visiting an exciting foreign country like Mexico.

You should learn about the effectiveness of a particular treatment for your own circumstances; for example, laser hair removal works best for people with light skin and dark hair; thus, if you are blonde, white, grey or red-haired, it may not be (as) successful.

Doing the research beforehand also extends to the clinic you have earmarked for the treatment. Is the clinic established and reliable? What qualifications do the practitioners have? Are there testimonials from previous patients?

Medical Departures background checks all the clinics listed on our website. Our processes include:

  • Checking legal and criminal records

  • Verifying qualifications and professional memberships.

  • Gathering and publishing real patient testimonials on our site

  • Conducting onsite clinic visits, where we assess for ourselves hygiene and safety procedures

If a facility passes our vetting process, we publish all our findings together with high-definition photos of the clinics on our site. With this wealth of information, patients can make their own decisions as to where to go for treatment. Plus, booking an appointment with Medical Departures is free and we also offer a Best Price Guarantee on all laser removal work

What Is the Procedure for Laser Hair Removal?

Depending on variables like the color and thickness, as well as your skin type, different laser hair removal devices are used. Some (Alexandrite® and pulsed light) are not suitable on tanned or dark skin, whereas Nd:YAG® and Diode® should be used instead. A reliable practitioner should be able to guide you through the various options and explain the suitability of particular devices in relation to your situation.

The actual length of each treatment session will also vary; this will depend on the size of the area you are having treated and how many hairs there are. For a large area, one session will usually up to an hour.

Before the treatment begins, the hairs in the area to be treated may be trimmed or shaved, making it easier for the light to penetrate down the hair shaft to the root. You will be given protective eyewear, and a small test area will be done first and checked for adverse reactions before the full treatment is started.

What Is the Recovery Time for Laser Hair Removal?

The treatment can be a little uncomfortable, rather than painful, and once complete, you may have anti-inflammatory creams or ice packs applied to your skin to soothe it. After an hour or two, you should notice your skin will be smoother, and any redness will subside.

Further treatments are recommended four to eight weeks later, and eventually, you will notice the hair regrowth becoming scarcer and finer until, ultimately, it stops coming back altogether.

How Much Can I Save on Laser Hair Removal in Mexico Compared to the United States and Canada?

Prices vary depending on the area to be treated and the number of sessions needed. Laser hair removal in Mexico costs one session costs on average of around $75 compared to $230 in the United States. This can equate to savings of around $2,000 in total on treatment alone. [Please note: these are average price comparisons calculated at the time of writing.]
