Lip Augmentation in Bangkok

The Ultimate Guide to Lip Augmentation in Bangkok

Last fact-checked: 9 December 2019

Many of us dream about having fuller, plumped-up lips – but are often put off when we see the silly price tag for fillers or, in rarer cases, implants.

Undergoing a lip augmentation in Bangkok, however, can save you money – with a range of surgical and non-surgical options available in the Thai capital that will give you fuller, smoother lips, and also help to minimize signs of aging, such as fine lines around the mouth.

Whether you are staying in Bangkok long or short-term, there are different options available depending on how much time you have. With Medical Departures, you can easily search for quality-checked clinics and practitioners in Bangkok who offer the procedure you want.

Am I Suitable for Lip Augmentation?

Lips become thinner as we age, and some of us have never been blessed with the fashionable fuller lips we’d like. There are a number of ways to plump them up, either on a short-term or permanent basis. If you are thinking of lip augmentation, it is something to consider carefully and it is imperative you choose a surgeon that has a proven track record.

Have reasonable expectations in terms of what you want to achieve. While you may desire lips like Angelina Jolie, they aren’t necessarily going to be the best look for you. Think about the permanent and temporary lip enhancement options and look at the key pros and cons:

  • Temporary fillers will require top-ups every few months – if you don’t like the look, your lips will eventually return to their normal size.
  • Permanent fillers are just that – and removal of lip implants is difficult (making them less popular). The effects can be more dramatic, and it's worth remembering that this is a more serious cosmetic surgical procedure.

Why Have Lip Augmentation in Bangkok?

Lip Augmentation is the general term applied to procedures than enhance the lips – whether it’s simply to add volume or to change the shape. From simple injections to cosmetic surgery, Bangkok has seen it all and is one of the places to go for expertise in all areas of aesthetics.

That said, you should still take the appropriate steps before you undertake any procedure to ensure your chosen practitioner and clinic are of a high standard. The bottom line is, not all of them are – no matter how professional their company website looks.

You should first find out all you can about the types of procedures available and their suitability for what you require. Obviously, your practitioner will talk through the options in greater detail but it will help a lot if you have an idea of what’s out there. This will also help you to decide what type of practitioner to book an appointment with – you don’t necessarily need a plastic surgeon for lip injections.

Using our site, you can search for the type of service you want and compare facilities, prices and more before you book an appointment. Medical Departures has a verification process that we carry out on clinics/doctors before we list them on the website. Legal and criminal records are checked for malpractice claims, and we corroborate professional memberships and qualifications, as well as patient testimonials, which are listed on the site. We also have people on the ground to visit clinics and provide high-definition photos so you can see what we do, making the decision-making process so much easier.

What Is Involved in the Lip Augmentation Procedure?

There are quite a few options for enhancing lips – from volume and plumpness increasers to actually changing the shape and colored area of the lips. What happens during your procedure will depend on what lip augmentation treatment you decide to have done. Sometimes you may require more than one procedure to obtain the look you are after.

Generally speaking, treatments use either injections or surgery.

Injection treatments add volume and can be done by the fat transfer method, (also known as autologous fat transfer or microlipoinjection) where fat from your own body is injected into the lips. The procedure is a three-step process, as described below:

  1. Removal of fat from one part of the body
  2. Cleansing of the fat
  3. Injecting the cleansed fat into the lips

If you are already having surgery or liposuction, then the procedure can be performed under general anaesthetic along with the other procedure. If you are having lip augmentation on its own, then you will likely be given a general anaesthetic. The desired result may take several treatments.

Fillers are also injection treatments used to enhance the lips. They may be comprised of synthetic or natural biocompatible ingredients and brand names such as Restylane or Juvederm are popular. Although results are immediately noticeable, they are temporary, and repeat injections are required to maintain the desired result.

Surgical options for lip enhancement include:

  • Lip Lift – To increase the upper lip an incision is made under the nose and the skin shortened by pulling it up slightly. Downward turning mouths can also be corrected by surgery by making small incisions to the side of the mouth and removing the extra skin.
  • Lip Implant – Synthetic or natural implants are inserted through incisions in the corner of the mouth.
  • Dermal Graft – Incisions are made inside the mouth and a fat-graft is taken from deeper layers of the skin positioned under the lip lining.
  • Vermillion Advancement – An incision is made around the coloured part of the lips and a strip of skin removed. The coloured section is pulled and stitched to the remaining skin, increasing the lip size. Scars are hidden under the lip line.

What Is the Recovery Time for Lip Augmentation?

This all depends on what procedure you are having carried out. Some injection treatments have minimal downtime and can be carried out in a lunchtime. Surgery will take a little longer, but most people will be able to fly home and return to work in a few days following the procedure.

It is advisable that you get any sightseeing in Bangkok out of the way before any cosmetic surgery, although light activities are an option after a few day's rest following lip augmentation.

How Much Does Lip Augmentation Cost in Bangkok Compared to Australia?

Obviously, the prices vary widely, depending on whether you have surgery or a non-surgical procedure. However, generally lip augmentation in Bangkok costs around 50% less than it does in Australia.
