More and more people are heading abroad for more affordable plastic surgery, often combining their procedure with a holiday at the same time. One of the top places in the world to do exactly this is the Philippines, a country that offers a winning combination of low prices and high-quality cosmetic results.
Aside from the capital, the sprawling Angeles City is home to a number of facilities where international patients can obtain surgery for less. This Medical Departures guide gives you the lowdown on the city, pointing you in the direction of our verified surgeons who can save you a fortune.
Angeles City is one of the largest cities in the country and now ranked as one of the best places to live in the Philippines. It is also known as the entertainment capital of the country, with a vibrant nightlife and dining scene.
As a highly urbanized city, it caters to thousands of tourists from all over the globe. Now growing as a medical tourism destination, Angeles city has numerous clinics and hospitals offering plastic surgery procedures, non-invasive cosmetic treatments, elective surgeries and procedures of all kinds.
Across the Philippines, including Angeles City, you can now choose from a wide range of treatments including breast augmentation, facelifts, stem cell therapy, nose and chin augmentation, body contouring, weight loss surgery and minimally invasive and non-invasive cosmetic treatments.
The doctors practising at the clinics and hospitals are skilled and experienced. They are also caring and compassionate, fluent in English and comfortable using modern technology and devices, often working in huge private hospitals or modern outpatient facilities. Importantly, all treatments here are available at a fraction of the price when compared to your home country—with savings of up to 70% viable in many cases.
Additional costs are quite reasonable: hotels, food, medicines, diagnostic tests and transport are all relatively inexpensive. This means that you can afford the best care without breaking the bank.
Angeles City is located in the Pampanga province of the Philippines and is 80 kilometres to the north of Manila, in the Central Luzon district, surrounded by Mabalacal in the north, San Fernando in the south-east, Bacolor in the south and Porac in the south-west.
Angeles City is favoured by medical tourists who are looking for low-cost procedures. These tourists come from places like Australia and New Zealand but has traditionally always had a large throughput of Americans thanks to the Clark Air Base where many servicemen and their families are stationed. Angeles City also hosts tourists from other Asian countries like China and Japan.
Many come with the idea of combining a holiday getaway along with plastic surgery as the cost differential can be enormous, despite the added travel and holiday costs. Some examples of the cost of plastic surgery procedures in Angeles City:
High-Quality Medical Facilities:
Thanks to the government's push to invest in the medical tourism industry, you can find superb quality clinics and hospitals across the Philippines—and Angeles City is no exception. The facilities often with plush surroundings and a great ambience all over the city. While you will find clinics and spas close to wherever you stay, it makes sense to book your hotel and hospital simultaneously and see that each is accessible from the other.
Angeles City has numerous teaching hospitals, esthetic clinics and other high-quality healthcare facilities. The Philippines also has a number of hospitals accredited by the highly-regarded Joint Commission International (JCI).

Doctor Training and Qualifications:
In the Philippines, doctors have a rigorous process to follow before embarking on their medical education. First, they must complete their graduation along with specific science curriculum, then must complete a national medical examination. It is only when they get through this with the required percentage that they can join a medical school.
After four years of study that includes classroom and practical training, leading to an M.D. Degree, there is still more work to do. The doctor has to do an internship for one year and then give the licensure exam before getting the license to practice. The process takes a total of at least 10 years and this only enables the doctor to practice general medicine. For plastic surgery and other specialities, the doctor must complete three to six years of studies, training and certifications.
A Popular Tourist Location for Pre and Post-op Recovery:
Angeles City has innumerable hotels and resorts in different neighbourhoods, ranging from luxurious high-end ones, good quality mid-range ones and budget accommodations that are comfortable, yet cheap. You can stay at a self-contained resort if you want to make the most of your time, go to a hotel with a casino or stay in the centre of the city for easier access to many facilities and entertainment hubs.
Before selecting a hotel you should check what amenities are included and what you have to pay for. You may also be able to get a great package deal if you know how long you will be staying. Most hotels will give you basic amenities like air-conditioned rooms, television and Wi-Fi. Before you book, determine whether you want a kitchenette or dining options in-house with room service.
Angeles City is generally safe. However, you should take due precautions, not flash your money around and dress sensibly. Avoid talking to strangers and beware of people trying to scam you in various ways by pretending to be friendly. When travelling on public transport be aware of your surroundings and take care of your wallet and other possessions that you carry with you, including expensive mobiles, laptops and tablets.
Booking with Medical Departures ensures your experience here will be safe and as streamlined as possible. We carry out in-depth investigations into the skills, experience and qualifications of the doctors and their accreditations. We also check out the amenities and ambience of the hospitals and clinics listed on our website and make sure that they meet international standards.
Almost all surgeries are performed without any problems. However, as our bodies are all unique and react differently, surgery carries a certain degree of risk, regardless of where in the world it is carried out.
While no-one can ever guarantee any surgical procedure will be 100% successful, you can maximise your chances of it going without a hitch by booking with a professional whose credentials you are happy with.
This is why booking through Medical Departures makes sense as we’ve already done background checks, including verifying qualifications, professional memberships and visiting clinics. Only if we’re happy with all the patient safety benchmarks are clinics listed on our site.
Should anything go wrong Medical Departures will get it put right. We would recommend you take out extra medical insurance for medical complications that covers additional travel or accommodation costs if you need to stay longer than planned, or you’ve already returned home and need to come back.
In places that attract large numbers of tourists from western countries, most people speak English. In the Philippines, a large majority of the population speaks English and so you will face no communication problems.
All kinds of international cards are accepted in the Philippines, whether debit or cards. You can also use other payment methods including wire transfer or direct payments. You ought to carry some local cash with you for small purchases and you can get the currency changed at the airport or at a reputable money changer.
While hospitals and clinics are open through the year, the best time to visit is between November and April. During these months, you enjoy pleasant weather and the winter months are cooler as well.
November to January is relatively pleasant and cooler, particularly if you want to be outdoors. Most indoor places are air-conditioned so you will not face heat and humidity in the other months, some of which may be cheaper in terms of flights and hotels.
There is really no downside to getting plastic surgery done in Angeles City, other than you will have to endure a rather long flight if you are flying from Europe or North America.
Being in a new and exotic country will also mean being, for most people, outside of their comfort zones. However, this can be an upside as well since you are away from the drudgery of daily life, the demands of your workplace and home and the usual stresses you have at home. You can stay in a comfortable place or even a luxurious place, and get all your needs catered to, not having to worry about washing, up, cleaning up and cooking.
If you have minor treatments, then you may still need to take some precautions and be out of the sun and off alcohol. If you do need bed rest, you may be able to get a private nurse or attendant to take care of you, should you need one–the hospital or doctor will be able to help.
Angeles City has a reputation as a sex and gambling destination, possibly due to the decades-old Clark Air Force Base. However, it is much more than that. It has a plethora of leisure, sports and other activities to enjoy. There are many heritage buildings, churches and museums for you to see, and you can also indulge in adventure and other sports like drag racing (Angeles City Hot Rod Association), trekking, hiking, ultralight flying (Angeles City Flying Club), go-karting (Kart City, Tarlac), lawn bowling (Angeles Sport and Country Club), horse riding and golfing. The city has a wakeboard park (Decca Wakeboard Park), firing range and the Puning and Sapang Bato Hot Springs are also close by.
For the nature lovers, there is the Fort Stotsenburg Park, Bayanihan Park, the Fontana Leisure Park, which is a water park, Zoocobia, an interactive zoo and Paradise Ranch, which has exotic flora and fauna.
As for shopping, Angeles City won't disappoint. Home to plenty of shopping malls, including the SM Mall, Marquee Mall, Nepo Mall, Robinsons Mall and a host of smaller shops and markets, including open-air ones. You can also find duty free shops with many items inside the Clark Eco Zone which are much cheaper because they are tax free.
As Angeles City has a widespread culinary reputation, you can find an enormous choice of eateries. Thanks to the earlier Spanish influence you can get a lot of flavours of Spain made in the Filipino way. You can try all the local delicacies as well as international cuisines like American, Mexican, Korean, Japanese and Italian, including the ubiquitous pizzas and grills. Coffee and cake are also available in numerous places.
Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in the Clark Freeport Zone is the smaller international airport that is serviced by low cost and budget airlines. Otherwise, you have to land at the Manila International Airport and make your way from there.
You can take buses or cars into Angeles City after landing in Manila.
The actual time to reach your destination will vary and depend on the number of stopovers, the route and the layover time. Some of the approximate flight times to reach the country from different destinations are:
Local transport consists of taxis, jeepneys and trikes (a motorcycle with an attached passenger cabin). You can also get rental cars, but it is best to take one with a driver as driving can be quite hazardous.
If you are from Britain, Canada, the US, Australia and EU countries, you may not need an official visa but instead, get an entry permit on arrival for 30 days (as long as you have a return ticket).
If you need a visa extension, you will most likely get it, but this is chargeable. For other countries, check online regarding whether or not you need a visa since the Philippines gives visa waiver to citizens of 150 countries.
