Labiaplasty, a type of vaginal rejuvenation procedure, can be undertaken in Phuket by savvy patients looking to combine a holiday in the sun with more affordable prices for surgery.
A medical trip to Thailand offers the chance to explore this exotic destination before recuperating in the luxury of your hotel for a few days while the body heals. Find out more, including recommended clinics on the island, with Medical Departures.
This procedure is becoming more and more popular for Western women. Although labia (the vaginal lips) come in all shapes and sizes, many women feel that theirs are not as esthetically pleasing as they'd like. Some women feel the labia protrude too much under clothing, while others find maintaining personal hygiene more difficult due to size or shape.
Provided that you are over 18, in generally good health, and have a realistic expectation of the outcome, you are most likely suitable for labiaplasty.
Phuket is not just a popular destination for tourists, but also for medical travellers. The stunning southern island province attracts patients from around the globe thanks to its inexpensive prices, excellent quality facilities and world-class expertise of its medical staff.
Thailand first opened its doors to international medical tourists in the 1990s. Back then, the capital, Bangkok, was the first and only city in the country to welcome patients from overseas looking for affordable medical care. The phenomenon that is medical tourism has since expanded across the country; today, where tourists go, so do internationally-trained surgeons, who offer a vast range of cosmetic procedures.
Phuket may also offer another reason for patients looking at labiaplasty: discretion. If you’re someone who doesn’t want everyone to know your business, then if you have surgery in your local hospital, you’re bound to bump into someone who knows you, which could prove awkward if you’re explaining why you’re there. This is a circumstance that shouldn’t occur when you’re abroad.
We always recommend booking with a trusted third-party site like Medical Departures. Our team has already done the necessary research on each and every clinic listed on our site, so you don't have to.
Under each listing you can find doctor qualifications; professional memberships; real patient reviews; high-definition clinic photos and lots more. Traveling overseas for surgery may be daunting, but if you’re happy with your surgeon’s and clinic's credentials then it will make the trip a less unnerving experience.
When booking with Medical Departures, you are also assured of the best prices online, as well as 24/7 customer service and assistance with other aspects of your medical trip such as insurance, hotel bookings, and finance.
Labiaplasty generally takes between one and two hours. It can be carried out with a local anesthetic, and so you may not even need an overnight hospital stay.
The procedure is relatively simple, essentially involving excess skin and unwanted tissue removed with either a laser or scalpel. Once the surgeon is satisfied with the esthetic result (as discussed with you prior to the surgery), the remainder is sutured with dissolvable stitches.

Generally, the recovery time is relatively swift, and you can expect to experience quite a bit of discomfort immediately following your surgery. It's advisable to rest in and around the comfort of your hotel, and avoid vigorous activity for the remainder of your time in Thailand—although some gentle walking should be fine after a few days.
You need to keep the labia and surrounding area clean and dry until the stitches have dissolved–usually in around a week–so no bathing or swimming as per the advice of your surgeon. Showering is usually allowed after 48 hours.
Most people who have the procedure are back in work after a week. Vigorous exercise and sex should be avoided for six weeks.
On average, labiaplasty should cost around half the price in Phuket than Australia, while some of our clients find that they can save closer to 70% on the price of the procedure.
