What Is a Neck Lift and Is it for Me?

Also known as platysmaplasty, the surgeon lifts the muscles of the neck and removes extra skin and fat. The incisions are then closed before a pressure dressing is applied around your head and underneath the chin.

Neck lifts are great for rejuvenating the lower face, especially if you don’t particularly want or need a full facelift. The procedure is sometimes combined with other surgeries, for example, eye bag removal or liposuction. The results are subtle and rejuvenating, so that it won’t even look as if you’ve had surgery.

Why Should I Have a Neck Lift in Tijuana?

Tijuana is one of Mexico’s leading tourism destinations. Medical tourism in itself is a growing industry throughout the world, with Mexico offering the expert practitioners and state-of-the-art facilities that international patients expect.

Tijuana’s close proximity to the US-Mexico border makes it an obvious choice for patients traveling from North America. It is easy to reach by car, with the medical lanes at the border crossing making it even more accessible; With international airports in Tijuana and San Diego, patients from further afield can get here relatively easily as well.

While it's normal to have concerns about undergoing medical treatment in Mexico, doing your own research beforehand can mitigate the risks. For example, you may want to:

  • Look into the procedure, what it entails and the kind of results that can be expected.

  • Make sure you find a doctor who is reliable by searching online and reading reviews.

  • You may want to learn if your chosen surgeon is registered with Mexico’s board of plastic surgeons, or an international society such as ISAPS. You may well find that a good number of plastic surgeons in Tijuana are also American board-certified.

  • Learn more about where the surgery is to be carried out: does the hospital or clinic have a website? Is the clinic/hospital accredited with, say JCI or ISO?

While no surgery can ever be guaranteed, ensuring you choose a provider with verifiable credentials puts you in the best position for ensuring your surgery is performed by experienced, professional hands.

Medical Departures’ website lists surgeons’ credentials, publishes clinic photos, video tours and authenticated patient reviews as well as prices. We also pay onsite visits and we don’t list any clinic that's not up to our standards. Our providers are verified and quality-checked, delivering outstanding care at prices you can afford.

How Long Does a Neck Lift Take to Perform?

Neck lifts can be tailor-made to suit individuals. For example, you may have a problem with neck bands and would like this addressed, or it may be double chins that are more of an issue for you.

What you wish to achieve will determine the length of the surgery. On average, it takes around two hours—but do factor in more time before and especially after your surgery, as you will need to spend some time resting before you can head back to your accommodation in Tijuana.

What Is the Recovery Time After a Neck Lift?

Immediately after surgery, your wounds will be bandaged and you may have drainage tubes to remove fluid away from the wounds.

Your neck will feel sore, but you will be given pain relief to ease the discomfort. Bruising and swelling will become evident after a few days, but it will start to subside in around a week.

You will be encouraged to do gentle stretching exercises to ease the tightness in your neck and you may feel it more comfortable to sleep in an upright position for the first week or two. You can probably return to work after a week or two, as long as you don’t have a physical job. Any vigorous activity should be avoided for six weeks, including heavy lifting and sports. It could take several months before the tightness in your neck is resolved.

What Is the Cost of a Neck Lift in Tijuana Compared to Canada and the United States?
