The Gleneagles Hospital - Penang officially opened on July 1, 1973 as the Penang Medical Centre. The facility was originally a 70-bed, three-storey building that provided medical services such as general surgery, obstetrics & gynaecology, general medicine, radiology and anaesthesia. The hospital also had its own laboratory and two operating theatres. However, it soon became clear that the site needed to expand in order to meet public requirements and three more floors were added in 1975, increasing the hospital’s capacity to 132 beds along with additional departments including paediatrics, ophthalmology, radiology, otorhinolaryngology (ENT), orthopaedics and neurosurgery.

Gleneagles Penang has continued to expand and now has a new 19-storey adjoining building that houses 10 new operating theatres, digital operating rooms equipped for minimally invasive surgery, an outpatient department with 80 consultation suites and a car park with 600 parking bays. The facility is also open 7 days a week, from 7am until 9pm.

The hospital offer a range of surgeries that include Knee Replacements, Hip Replacements, Cataract Surgery and Mastectomies. They also provide a number of specialist heart procedures that include Valvuloplasty, Angioplasty, Coronary Stent and Coronary Angiography.
