The Brazilian butt lift procedure is a form of butt implant but uses your own fat, rather than synthetic implants, in a process called autologous fat transfer.

This simply means that fat is extracted from one part of your body, and injected into another.

The donor site (or sites) from where the fat is removed can be the back, stomach or thighs and it is extracted by liposuction and purified before it can be injected into the buttocks.

Special cannulas are used to inject the fat through various incisions made in inconspicuous areas (the scars of which will fade with time but are hidden underneath bikini bottoms).

Depending on how much fat is needed for the procedure, the Brazilian butt lift may take several hours.

Following your surgery:

• You will be dressed with bandages and possibly a tight compression garment, which helps to reduce swelling and aids the recovery process.
• You may have drainage tubes inserted into the site to draw fluid away.
• For the first few days, you will feel uncomfortable, stiff and bruised, but you will be administered with pain medication to relieve this.
• You will find it more comfortable to lie on your stomach, rather than sitting; this will be advised as it will relieve pressure on your buttocks.
• When leaving the hospital, you will need pillows to sit on in the car, and you may have to use a pillow for a couple of months when you sit until you have healed and the swelling has died down.
• You should be able to return to work in a few weeks, but vigorous exercise should be avoided entirely for six weeks.
• It may be up to six months before you have healed completely.
