The Ultimate Guide to Hair Transplant in Mexico City

Introduction

Save a fortune on hair transplants in Mexico City. Forget about untested pills and "miracle" shampoos; this is currently the only way to effectively restore hair that's been lost due to age, genetics or any other condition.

Bid farewell to your bald patches and regain your confidence with this innovative procedure that's available for thousands of dollars less than back home.

In order to undergo a hair transplant in Mexico City, it is imperative that you're at least 23 years old. Furthermore, it is customary that you have tried other hair restoration medications before resorting to a hair transplant. Those considering this surgical procedure should have already experienced a significant amount of hair loss in order to be eligible.

They should also have zero medical contraindications to the surgical procedure and have reasonable expectations of the result. Your surgeon will be able to explain what to expect in more detail.

Why Should I Have a Hair Transplant in Mexico City?

There are a number of reasons for the popularity of Mexico City as a medical tourism destination. Not only is it close to the United States and Canada (which ensures easy travel between the two regions by either car or plane) but it also offers much more affordable rates compared to most other countries.

However, a lot of people interested in getting hair transplants in Mexico fear that lower costs might equate to low quality, both in terms of the professionals who conduct them and the hospitals in which they are carried out. This is an understandable fear, but amid the few horror stories about medical tourism there are thousands who have enjoyed successful procedures.

We always advise you to do your own research. You can find many good quality clinics with international accreditations, as well as qualified doctors who have specialist training in hair transplantation and who are likely members of professional organizations, such as the International Society of Hair Restoration.

At Medical Departures, our professionals and medical care facilities are screened thoroughly before they can make it to the online listings. Not only are they verified for their experience, but are also scrutinized for their overall reputations. This ensures that people heading from overseas to Mexico City for their hair transplant procedures are provided with the greatest level of security and comfort.

What Happens During the Procedure?

There are two main techniques involved in a hair transplant:

  • In the STRIP technique, a strip of the patient’s skin is taken from the donor area (which is usually the back or the sides of the head) with the help of a scalpel. The gap that this leaves behind is then stitched together. The doctor will then divide this strip into a number of grafts, each of which contains between one to three hair follicles.

  • Regarding your second option, the follicular unit extraction method is essentially stitch-less. This technique uses local anesthesia that is administered to the back of the patient’s head, and a few hair roots are removed from the surrounding area. This procedure, therefore, eliminates the use of a scalpel.

Either the grafts (as in the first case) or the hair roots (as in the second case) are implanted into the areas that have been designated to receive the hair transplant. This is usually done by making tiny holes in the scalp using a small needle or a blade.

What Is the Recovery Period?

  • If the STRIP technique has been used, then it is important for people to take special care while they are sleeping since there are stitches on the back of their heads. Furthermore, they are also told to refrain from excessive exercise and strenuous work until the stitches have been removed.
  • If the follicular unit extraction method is used, the recovery period is much shorter. In essence, the patient can simply walk out of the operating room right after surgery, and resume gentle activities from the very next day (and make sure to stay out of direct sunlight). The bandage wrapped around the area that has undergone the procedure can also be taken off the next day.

It’s important to note that your head will be sore, and is likely to scab over. The initial transplants will fall out fairly quickly after the procedure, but in about three months', your new hair will start to grow.

Hair transplants usually result in very manageable hair, so you can style your hair any way you want using limited tools.

I got the 360 Lipo (opted out for the tummy tuck) - I was EXTREMELY impressed with their organisation, i arrived and was transported to the apartment i arranged, they would pick me up and drop me off each time i needed to visit (communicated over WhatsApp). When i arrived it was a rush to get payment but they were patient when a few of my cards didnt work (i suggest you bring multiple credit cards). There was a lack of communication on what to expect during and AFTER surgery, black and enlarged scrotum had me worried and wasnt warned about it and i had to google what i needed to do after surgery for recovery, they didnt sit me down and walk me through the process, just put me on a bed and was done, they did regularily check me when in the bed after surgery and was very professional, but most of the staff there had to use translators on their phone to communicate. I felt it was worth the money to get the surgery done and was a suitable place for the budget. Suggest you do NOT do this alone, took me 7 days recovery in Turkey before being able to travel back to AU, had a final checkup day before leaving.
