Bellafill is a gel that is injected directly into your skin. It contains bovine collagen (from cows) and microspheres to hydrate, that remain in place to create a matrix to support your own skin’s collagen production. Collagen is the essential protein that is the foundation for building healthy skin, and as we age, our body’s ability to create collagen slows down. This leads to loss of volume, sagging and wrinkles.
This dermal filler is considered to be a permanent solution, as, unlike collagen which eventually breaks down, the microspheres do not.
It can be used for wrinkles caused by volume loss and sagging, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines), instantly smoothing to give the face a younger look.
In Mexico you will find the same branded materials and treatments that you will find at home, but typically for around half the price. Medical tourists are unlikely to find it cost-effective to come to Mexico specifically for Bellafill, however, it may be something to consider if you are already visiting on business or holiday. For north Americans, particularly those located in the southern United States, it may well be worth considering if you live near the US-Mexico border.
Mexico’s medical facilities have increased considerably over the last decade or so, partly in response to the influx of medical tourists, who now view Mexico as a viable, safe and affordable option for all sorts of medical-related services, from pharmaceuticals to dental care to cosmetic surgery.
Many of the clinics and hospitals who are used to treating international patients are of exceptionally high-quality, offering the same degree of medical expertise as you will find at home, but notably with one difference, customer care tends to be far superior in Mexico.
Rather than just jump in, we would always recommend you research any medical or cosmetic procedure well before you have it done. This would be the case even if you were having it done at home. There are such a vast array of cosmeceutical services and products around, that it really is worth taking the time to find out what each does, the potential risks and whether it is suitable for your requirements.
Medical Departures tries to make the process a little easier by already pre-checking our doctors and clinics, so at least you know when you book though us that you will be seen by a reputable clinic. Our verification measures include checking qualifications and professional memberships; gathering real patient testimonials and paying visits to clinics. Only if we are satisfied do we list on our website.
You should have an allergy test before you attend for the procedure because of the bovine collagen contained in Radiesse. Only if this is negative should you consider the treatment.
The injections only take a few moments, but the process could be as long as an hour, subject to how many areas are treated. Temporary side-effects, including swelling, itching, bruising and redness will subside over the days following treatment.
The results should be immediately noticeable, and are long-lasting – up to 12 months. However, if further top-ups are needed they should be performed 3 – 6 weeks apart.
Priced by the syringe, it is around $750 in the United States (CAD $900, GBP £500, €650, AUD $100) compared to around $500 in Mexico(CAD $600, GBP £300, €450, AUD $650).
