If you have tried and failed at all kinds of methods of losing weight, you run the risk of diabetes and heart disease—and, aside from mobility problems, health conditions like this make a weight loss procedure worth considering bariatric surgery

A gastric bypass actually reduces the size of your stomach, so you’ll eat less and still feel full. Most patients’ weight gradually melts away as they consume far fewer calories. However, after gastric bypass surgery, it is still important to watch your diet by eating healthy to get all the nutrients you need, as well as avoiding high-calorie drinks that can negate the positive effects of less food.

In Kuala Lumpur, bariatric surgery like a gastric bypass can cost thousands less than back home. At the same time, you get to enjoy a pre-surgery holiday in an exotic new country. As a popular tourist destination, the Malaysian capital is visited every year by millions from all over the world, with many using it as a base to explore other top destinations around the Malay Peninsula like Malaka, Penang and Langkawi. The city itself is easy to navigate, has great shopping and dining options and also offers a host of sightseeing options.

How Long Does Gastric Bypass Surgery Take and What Is the Recovery Period?

Gastric bypass surgery takes between two and four hours, depending on what particular method is used.  The surgery consists of dividing the stomach into two parts, the small one which will hold the food and a larger pouch. The division is created either using staples or by complete separation. The small part of the stomach is connected to the middle part of the small intestine, bypassing the duodenum and the upper part of the small intestine.

Performed under general anesthesia, the surgery is complex and you will need to stay in the hospital for two to three days. If the surgery used this open method technique, recovery time can take as much as four weeks. Normally, however, it is performed laparoscopically in which only small incisions are made, this the recovery period is much quicker.

You will be out on intravenous fluids when you are at the hospital; this allows the stomach to heal faster. After that, you will be on liquid foods and then soft foods and gradually work your way to solids.

What Does Gastric Bypass Surgery Cost?

This can be an expensive surgery, particularly in countries like Australia where you can pay between AUD 16,000 to AUD 18,000. Depending on your current health condition, BMI and other variables, your insurance may pay for some of the costs of the surgery.

In Kuala Lumpur, you can pay between AUD 5,000 and AUD 10,000 without the need to go through insurance companies and any associated paperwork.

🇬🇧 Guy here. It has only been 24 hours since I had Nano LASIK here and to say I am impressed is an understatement. The staff here are ninjas, good English spoken and at every stage I was given honest medical advice, the equipment they have is top of the range, and the Eye Hospital is brand new. I will update my review in the coming weeks but at the moment in less than 24 hours I have 20/20 in one eye and above 20/20 in the second. Amazing and no pain. Special shout out to Win, who is an incredible liaison with very good knowledge or all procedures and is kind and professional, Patthanan for her guidance, professionalism and of course Dr Vivat who has expert knowledge and made me feel safe and at ease, this Dr is awesome. Every single staff member was warm and kind from the reception to cleaners and security. I can’t thank these guys enough. And I have never written a review this long before lol.

The staff were very courteous. Slight language barrier with some staff, but was never an issue. I was able to still communicate my needs without any problems.
