Liposuction in Philippines

The Ultimate Guide to Liposuction in Philippines

Can’t shift that spare tyre? Thinking about liposuction? In the Philippines you can pay a lot less than at home – get the chance to enjoy a holiday – and you’ll still spend less than if you’d stayed local.

Sometimes even when we watch our diet and exercise regularly we can’t shift some areas of fat. This is where liposuction can help – and once the fat’s off it will hopefully be easier to maintain your newer, slimmer shape.

Am I suitable for liposuction?

Liposuction can be carried out almost anywhere. On the face it is often used for a double chin. On the body it can be used on the tummy, butt, thighs, back and arms.

You must be over 18 with a weight that is within the normal range. Your skin will need to have enough elasticity to shrink to your new shape. If not you may need surgery to remove the loose skin. You should have realistic expectations about the outcome.

Why should I have liposuction in the Philippines?

The Philippines is fast becoming a hot medical tourist destination. Living costs are very low when compared to developed nations, and so if you opt to travel here you’ll find that medical and surgical costs are considerably lower too.

This doesn’t mean that the quality is lower – far from it. Medical training is as thorough here as it is in the West. Medical training now takes place on the world stage, and with frequent, low-cost flights around the globe it isn’t unusual for many doctors to have undertaken some of their training on foreign soil – and many do take the opportunity to go to the US or Europe. You'll also find medical staff here have international affiiations with professional organizations, just like the doctors at home.

As for healthcare facilities, there is a difference between public and private healthcare, with medical tourists being treated at private healthcare facilities. These facilities are often modern, state-of-the-art buildings, equipped with the latest technologies and offering a luxurious experience – a far cry from what many Western patients are used to at home!

Flying into the Philippines is easy, and Manila is well connected for traveling to other parts of the country. English is spoken widely by the majority of the population and so making yourself understood will not be an issue. Filipino’s are renowned for their friendliness and you will enjoy getting to know this incredible country and its people.

What is the cost of liposuction in the Philippines?

The average cost of Liposuction in the Philippines comes in at around AUD $1,477 (UK £750, EUR €970, CAN $1,400, USD $1,000) compared to the cost of having the treatment at home - $7,200 in Australia. (UK £3,600, EUR €4,700, CAN $7,000, USD $5,100).

What happens during the liposuction procedure?

After you have been given an anesthetic the procedure begins. Small incisions are made in the areas where the fat is to be removed. Cannula (long, thin tubes) are inserted and a saline mixture is injected into the fat cells which dissolves them so they can be sucked out by a machine. Sometimes ultrasound waves are used to break up the fat cells instead of the injection.

How long does liposuction take?

This depends on what areas you have it done. Just one area may take an hour or two, but a few areas could take up to several hours.

What about the recovery time from liposuction?

Immediately after the procedure you will feel a little stiff and sore and will most likely be wearing a compression garment which helps to reduce swelling and inflammation. You may have drainage tubes inserted to help remove fluid from the wound site(s).

You will need to take things easy for at least a week, and maybe longer depending on where you had the treatment. You will need to ease back into your routine, and take things slowly. You will not be permitted to do any strenuous lifting or vigorous exercise for around 6 weeks, and it will take several months before you have healed completely.
